Shippers’ Council Hails Gateway Airport as Key West Africa Cargo Hub
Dr. Akutah Pius Okeyima, Executive Secretary and CEO of the Nigeria Shippers’ Council, described Gateway International Airport as a critical piece of infrastructure. He made the comment during a courtesy visit to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun in Abeokuta. According to Dr. Akutah, the airport will serve as a strategic hub for cargo movement within Nigeria and across the West African sub-region. He said it will strengthen the country’s transport infrastructure and ease the challenges of moving goods. He praised Ogun State’s rapid development, highlighting the simultaneous construction of two dry ports. He also explained why the Shippers’ Council chose Ogun for its fourth retreat, noting the state’s conducive business environment. Governor Abiodun added that the state is developing a deep sea port to further ease congestion at Lagos ports. He assured the Council of continued support to boost Nigeria’s logistics and maritime sector.
