Presidency Asks Businesses to Propose Funding Plan for State Police
The Presidency has asked organised private-sector groups to submit practical proposals for financing and implementing state police, while insisting that any business support must be transparent and must not influence police operations. Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila said insecurity is raising costs for businesses through disrupted supply chains, delayed investments and job losses. He urged business leaders to identify security gaps affecting viable investments and contribute expertise in expenditure control, risk assessment and institutional management. Gbajabiamila said 24 state assemblies had approved the proposed constitutional amendment as of October 23, meeting the required threshold. He added that draft legislation has been sent for legal review, with safeguards proposed to prevent political misuse, protect citizens and ensure states can sustainably fund salaries, training, operations and maintenance.
