Abuja Woman Gets 20-Year Jail Term for Killing Boyfriend
Maryam Adewumi, a 22-year-old cleaner and mother of two, has been convicted of culpable homicide by the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Asokoro. On July 5, 2024, she stabbed her 35-year-old partner, Shallom Oliseh, during a fight in Kurudu. The injury led to his death and the court found she foresaw the likely fatal consequence of her action. Claiming self-defence, Adewumi’s plea was rejected. Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme sentenced her to 20 years’ imprisonment, retroactive to the date of her arrest.
