Fitness Instructor Urges Nigerians to Stay Active Beyond the Gym
Fitness instructor King James Ghamis says fewer than 10% of Nigerians use gyms regularly, but people can still stay fit through simple and affordable routines at home, in stadiums, fitness clubs or through dancing. Speaking at the Complete Sports Celebrity Workout in Lagos, Ghamis said long workdays and the daily Lagos hustle often make it difficult for people to maintain a consistent exercise routine. He encouraged people to build a culture of physical activity around their schedules. He described functional fitness as practical body-weight movements such as squats, sitting and standing, lifting objects safely, and lower-back exercises. The event also featured aerobics, Tabata and yoga sessions, alongside free checks for blood pressure, blood sugar, BMI and eye health.
