Customs Seizes 56 Containers of Contraband Worth ₦5.53bn at Onne Port
The Nigeria Customs Service says it has seized 56 containers of prohibited and improperly declared goods with a duty-paid value of ₦5.53 billion at the Onne Port in Rivers State. The consignments included 45 containers of foreign vegetable oil, nine containers of used clothing and two containers of tomato paste. Customs said the interception followed intelligence-led checks aimed at stopping goods that could undermine Nigerian manufacturers, farmers and other local producers. The service urged importers to confirm that goods are admissible before shipping them and to provide accurate details on their description, quantity, value, origin and classification. Customs also inaugurated a renovated primary healthcare facility in Ebubu, Eleme LGA, as part of its community-support initiative.
