Owa of Ogbagi Assaulted by Alleged Phone Thief, Community Demands Justice
Residents of Ogbagi-Akoko in Ondo State are outraged after a suspected phone thief reportedly attacked their traditional ruler, Oba Victor Adetona Ojo, on March 26, 2026. The lone assailant, identified as Tope Adelani, allegedly stole the monarch’s phone and returned to the palace, where he beat the king severely. Eyewitnesses say Oba Ojo confronted Adelani over the theft, triggering an unprovoked assault. The monarch suffered multiple injuries and was rushed to a private hospital for treatment. Family members who tried to intervene were also struck during the melee. In a statement, the Ogbagi Youth Assembly condemned the attack as sacrilegious and called on residents to remain calm. They urged youths from Egako Quarter and beyond to pursue justice through lawful channels and avoid any retaliatory violence. Police confirm the suspect is in custody as investigations continue.
