Over 20 Young Players Compete at Umudioka Open Table Tennis Championship in Awka
The second Umudioka Open Table Tennis Competition began on September 7 at Ndi-Ichie Hall in Umudioka Village, Awka, Anambra State. The week-long tournament will end on September 12. More than 20 young players are competing in the Under-13, Under-15, Under-18 and professional categories. Youth-category winners will receive table tennis kits, educational materials, medals and certificates. The professional winner will receive a trophy, gold medal and ₦50,000, while the first and second runners-up will earn ₦30,000 and ₦10,000 respectively. Organisers say the annual holiday tournament is intended to keep young people engaged and identify grassroots talents for future state and national competitions. The preliminary rounds are ongoing, with the top players set to contest the finals on Saturday.
