Israel Alleges Iran’s Role in Funding Terrorism in Nigeria
Israel’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, has renewed accusations that Iran sponsors terrorism worldwide, including in Nigeria. He says Tehran’s support for militant groups is well documented and cannot be dismissed by denials. Freeman pointed to Iran’s backing of Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis. He added that Iranian operatives have been linked to attacks from Argentina to the United Kingdom. The ambassador recalled a 2010 arms shipment seized at Lagos’s Apapa Port and a 2013 raid that uncovered weapons tied to Hezbollah in Abuja and Kano. He also claimed that Iran has long supported the Islamic Movement of Nigeria. Israel released the statement to challenge what it called misinformation about Iran’s global activities. It warned that terrorism threatens stability in Nigeria and beyond.
