Middle-Belt Youth Congress Condemns Killings in Benue and Plateau, Calls for Security Review
The Middle-Belt Youth Congress has raised alarm over recent attacks in Plateau and Benue states, including the killing of Chief Godwin Vonga of Timshat and assaults on Ankpali Community. It warned that such violence marks a dangerous escalation threatening regional peace and farmers’ livelihoods. While commending federal efforts under President Tinubu, the group urged a stronger security strategy to curb armed herders and protect communities. It noted that continued violence undermines food production and leaves residents displaced. The Congress called for an urgent stakeholders’ meeting involving traditional rulers, community and government leaders, security agencies, and youth groups to chart a path toward lasting peace. It stressed that silence or indifference in the face of these attacks risks tacit acceptance. The statement concluded with prayers for the victims, including Chief Vonga, and reaffirmed the group’s commitment to working with all parties toward a comprehensive solution.
