Anambra Gives Landowners Until December 31, 2026 to Recertify C of Os
The Anambra State Government has directed holders of old Certificates of Occupancy to complete recertification by December 31, 2026. The exercise will move existing land records into the Anambra State Geographic Information System database. After the deadline, the old land administration system will be shut down indefinitely. Landowners with unrecertified documents may be unable to process mortgages, deeds of assignment, certified true copies and irrevocable powers of attorney through the Ministry of Lands. The ministry clarified that old C of Os will not automatically become invalid after the deadline. However, affected titleholders may face restrictions when seeking land-related services until their records are recertified and captured in the new system.
