Lagos Fashion Week Unveils Blueprint for a Regenerative Fashion Future

Lagos Fashion Week Unveils Blueprint for a Regenerative Fashion Future — 1 of 8
1 / 8

Lagos Fashion Week, in partnership with The Earthshot Prize, launched “The Blueprint for a Regenerative Fashion Future.” This manifesto positions Africa as a leader in sustainable, inclusive, and climate-responsive fashion. Introduced at the African Fashion Compact II during London Climate Action Week, the document draws on centuries of African knowledge, craftsmanship, circularity, and community innovation. It outlines ten pillars—from cultural heritage and local manufacturing to waste justice and market access—offering a framework for change. Developed through workshops, consultations, and stakeholder engagements, the manifesto highlights Africa’s ownership gap. The continent exports $15 billion of raw textiles but imports $23 billion of finished garments. Designers, entrepreneurs, and organisations are invited to endorse and adopt this shared vision for a more regenerative fashion industry.

It's great to champion sustainability, but such lofty manifestos often struggle with funding and consistent implementation on the ground.

True, securing funds is a challenge, but without big visions we'd never spark real change on the ground.

Brands should start by sourcing local materials, setting clear circularity targets, and collaborating with environmental experts for measurable progress.
