Marvel Studios has announced a new cast for its upcoming X-Men film, scheduled for release on 5 May 2028. The reboot will bring the mutant team fully into the MCU, but the actors face comparisons with Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry and Jennifer Lawrence, whose performances defined the Fox-era films for many fans. Marvel sold the film rights to the X-Men to 20th Century Fox in the 1990s during a period of financial difficulty. Fox launched the franchise with X-Men in 2000 and expanded it through sequels, prequels, Wolverine spin-offs and Deadpool films, largely outside the MCU. Disney’s 2019 acquisition of 21st Century Fox returned the X-Men film rights to Marvel. After using multiverse stories to reconnect some Fox-era characters with the MCU, Marvel is now preparing a fresh team for the franchise’s next chapter.
