NPFL Opener: Shooting Stars Face Newly Promoted Inter Lagos in Ibadan
Shooting Stars will open their 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League campaign at home against newly promoted Inter Lagos on Friday at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, Ibadan. The Oluyole Warriors finished third last season to secure continental football for the first time in 27 years. However, they will hope to improve their opening-day record after managing only one win in their last five season openers. Former Super Eagles assistant coach Salisu Yusuf begins his tenure as technical adviser after Nurudeen Aweroro's departure. Shooting Stars have lost several key players but added Taheer Abubakar, Kalu Nweke, Albert Kovarh, Tamuno Kalio, Issa Yusuf and Aule Johnmark. Inter Lagos enter their first top-flight season after earning promotion last term. They will draw confidence from a goalless pre-season draw against Shooting Stars and are expected to retain much of the squad that secured promotion.
