IDP Commits Suicide in Benue amid Rising Mental Health Concerns
An internally displaced person (IDP), Mr. Terzungwe Orbam, ended his life in Jato Aka, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State. He fled Ikyoawen in Turan due to recurring security challenges. According to eyewitnesses, Orbam purchased a poisonous substance from an agrochemical shop and consumed it outside the outlet. He collapsed immediately and died before medical help could arrive. His remains have been deposited in the local mortuary. This tragedy has drawn attention to mental health struggles among displaced persons in the state. Community members and aid groups are urging authorities to provide more psychological support and interventions for vulnerable IDPs.
