INEC Prepares to Counter AI-Generated Election Misinformation Ahead of 2027
INEC says it is strengthening its ability to detect and counter AI-generated misinformation ahead of the 2027 general elections. The commission is training staff in digital forensics, fact-checking and social-media monitoring. It also plans to work with technology firms, fact-checking groups and cybersecurity experts to identify deepfakes, fake audio and other manipulated content. INEC says public awareness and faster responses to viral falsehoods will be key to protecting voter confidence and the integrity of future elections. Some observers, however, say sustained funding and stronger partnerships will be needed to keep up with rapidly changing AI tools.
