Wise Counsel Can Prevent Costly Mistakes
One battle every believer must win is the battle against self-sufficiency. We can make avoidable mistakes when we reject correction, refuse advice, or make major decisions alone. Proverbs 15:22 teaches that plans are strengthened through wise counsel. Seeking counsel does not remove personal responsibility. It means recognising that trusted, godly and experienced people may see dangers or opportunities we have missed. We should pray first, ask honest questions, listen without defensiveness, and weigh every counsel against God’s Word. Not every voice deserves to guide our decisions. Avoid people who encourage sin, compromise or impulsive choices. Humility allows us to receive sincere correction, while Christ remains our ultimate Counsellor. Before your next major decision, ask yourself: am I willing to seek wise counsel, or am I allowing pride to control my choices?
