Woman Caught With 116 Protected Lizards Hidden in Jacket at Russian Border
Russian customs officers intercepted a woman at the Mamonovo-2 border crossing in Kaliningrad after finding 116 live lizards hidden in small pouches sewn into her jacket. She was travelling by bus towards Poland and allegedly planned to take the reptiles to Germany for payment. She reportedly had no documents authorising their transport. Experts identified the animals as secret toadhead agamas, a protected species listed in Russia’s Red Data Book. All the lizards survived and were taken to an exotic animal rescue centre, while the woman faces customs-related administrative charges.
