Food Creator Raises Food-Safety Concerns Over Alleged Detergent Use in Street-Boiled Eggs
A Nigerian food content creator has raised concerns that some street vendors may be using detergent while boiling eggs. She said a neighbour told her that detergent could be used to reduce cracking, speed up boiling and make eggs easier to peel. While investigating, she claimed to have seen detergent among an egg seller’s items. She also reported noticing a strong detergent smell, empty sachets and foamy water at a location where eggs were being boiled. However, she said she did not personally see anyone add detergent to the cooking water. The allegation has renewed calls for caution and better food-safety practices among vendors selling boiled eggs.
