NLC Says ₦70,000 Minimum Wage Has Been Overtaken by Inflation

The Nigeria Labour Congress says the ₦70,000 national minimum wage has been overtaken by inflation and the rising cost of living. Speaking at the Nigeria Rights of Workers Summit 2026 in Birnin Kebbi, NLC Deputy President Adewale Adeyanju, representing President Joe Ajaero, said many workers can no longer meet basic needs on their current earnings. The summit brought together labour leaders, government officials, employers, workers, civil society groups and representatives of the National Industrial Court to discuss workers’ rights and welfare.
