Shehu Sani Urges South to Complete Eight-Year Presidency Before North Contests in 2031
Former senator Shehu Sani says the 2027 presidential election should feature President Bola Tinubu, Peter Obi and other southern candidates, arguing that the South should complete an eight-year tenure. He said power rotation is not required by the Constitution but remains important for equity and national stability. Sani listed Omoyele Sowore, Seyi Makinde, Adewole Adebayo and Donald Duke among southern figures who could contest. According to him, the North should have a clear claim to the presidency in 2031 after the South completes two consecutive terms. Atiku Abubakar has maintained that the Constitution does not prevent any Nigerian from contesting the presidency at any time.
