CFL Group Threatens N5bn Suit Over Alleged Land Title Fraud at Lagos Registry
CFL Group has given the Lagos State Land Registry seven days to correct disputed records over a Victoria Island property or face a N5 billion lawsuit. The company’s managing director, Lai Omotola, alleged that speculators use a scheme he called “land title laundering” to clone or manipulate land documents, particularly for high-value properties in Ikoyi and Victoria Island. He claimed forged documents are sometimes introduced into official records before a Governor’s Consent is obtained. Omotola cited a dispute over a property on Adeola Odeku Street, alleging that documents showed transactions involving people who had died before the stated dates. He called on the state government to investigate the claims, deregister any fraudulent consent and strengthen safeguards at the Land Registry.
