Ondo Police Meet Civil Society Groups Over Extortion, Harassment Complaints
The Ondo State Police Command has met with civil society organisations, community groups and other stakeholders over complaints of extortion, harassment, unfair treatment and alleged rights violations. At the October 23 meeting in Akure, participants called for more professional policing, lawful arrests and an end to profiling based on appearance. They also urged improved handling of gender-based violence cases and regular training for officers. Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu said public trust must be earned through accountability, respect for citizens’ rights and professional conduct. He said complaints raised at the meeting would be documented, investigated where necessary and followed up by the command. The dialogue is part of efforts to strengthen community policing and improve police-public relations across Ondo State.
