Giroud Explains Why He Left Arsenal for Chelsea Ahead of Return to North London
Olivier Giroud says he left Arsenal for Chelsea in January 2018 to secure enough playing time to make France’s squad for that year’s World Cup. The striker scored 105 goals in 253 appearances for Arsenal after joining under Arsène Wenger. He said his years at the club improved his link-up play, finishing and ability to operate as a target man. Giroud also said he still watches Arsenal and sees similarities between Wenger’s attacking style and Mikel Arteta’s current team. He will return to North London with Lille for their Champions League meeting with Arsenal.
