Atiku Questions Subsidy Savings as ASUU Threatens Nationwide Strike
Atiku Abubakar has asked President Bola Tinubu to explain how savings from fuel subsidy removal have been used, following ASUU’s renewed threat of a nationwide strike. The former vice-president said the strike warning raises questions about promises to invest subsidy savings in education, healthcare and other essential services. He argued that students and families are still facing higher transport, food and education costs. ASUU says it may begin a strike soon unless the Federal Government and state governments address outstanding agreements and unpaid deductions. The union also cited concerns over pension contributions, cooperative deductions and check-off dues. Atiku questioned why public universities still face poor facilities and unresolved obligations despite claims of higher government allocations.
