Manchester City Set to Appeal Premier League Findings Over £830m Sponsorship Funding
Manchester City are expected to appeal findings that they breached Premier League financial rules through sponsorship arrangements valued at about £830.69 million. An independent commission reportedly found that the club inflated revenue through sponsorship deals and concealed some liabilities between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons. City deny wrongdoing and maintain that the payments came from the Abu Dhabi government, not their owners, Abu Dhabi United Group. The Premier League argued that the arrangements were disguised funding designed to help City meet financial regulations. City say the findings contain errors of law, principle and fact, while Etihad Airways has also denied any improper commercial arrangement. The dispute could now move to an appeal, with HM Revenue & Customs also being asked to consider whether the evidence raises tax or regulatory concerns.
