NDLEA Busts South African Woman with 5.75kg of Heroin at Abuja Airport
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency arrested a 38-year-old South African woman at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on July 6. She allegedly tried to smuggle 5.75 kg of heroin in two suitcases while traveling with her three-year-old son. Operatives verified that the baggage tags matched her passport claim tags. Confronted with the evidence, she admitted ownership of the suitcases and said she had forgotten they contained the drugs. Intelligence links her to a transnational trafficking network operating between Cambodia and South Africa. In a separate operation at Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed Airport, NDLEA arrested a 48-year-old former okada rider arriving from Madagascar. He was found with 1.715 kg of methamphetamine he had ingested. At Apapa Seaport, officers also seized over 4 tonnes of synthetic cannabis valued at more than ₦10.3 billion. Beyond seizures, the agency has intensified its War Against Drug Abuse sensitisation in secondary schools across Ebonyi, Kano, Ekiti and Ogun states. NDLEA’s chairman praised the officers and urged them to sustain efforts in disrupting illicit trafficking and educating the public.
