Sheikh Jingir Stands by Support for Muslim-Muslim Presidential Ticket

Sheikh Jingir Stands by Support for Muslim-Muslim Presidential Ticket

Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, leader of the Izala Scholars Council, says he does not regret supporting a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket despite the criticism that followed his earlier remarks. In a BBC Hausa interview, Jingir said his position was rooted in his religious convictions, not an effort to campaign for President Bola Tinubu. He said he would continue to encourage Muslims to support the arrangement and claimed that Muslims had previously faced discrimination. The cleric restated his position after speaking at a Kano State mass wedding for 1,500 couples. His remarks have drawn mixed reactions, with critics calling them divisive and supporters defending his right to express his political and religious views ahead of 2027.
