Presidency Reaffirms Death of ISWAP Commander Al-Manuki After Rigorous Intelligence Operation
The Presidency has defended reports of the killing of senior ISWAP commander Abu-Bilal Al-Manuki, insisting the operation was supported by months of intensive intelligence gathering and multi-layered verification. Officials explained that earlier claims of his death were based on mistaken identity and that Birnin Gwari was never part of his known territory. They said the latest mission relied on digital monitoring, communications intercepts and human intelligence to validate targets. Surveillance on Al-Manuki reportedly began in December 2025, with agents tracking his movements across Abuja, Maiduguri and other locations. Authorities initially sought to capture him alive before authorising a final strike. The government warned that dismissing credible counterterrorism actions without evidence could undermine morale and public confidence. It maintained there is “100 per cent certainty” regarding the identity of the slain ISWAP leader.
