Ex-Husband of NYC Art Dealer Sentenced to Life for Brazil Murder Plot
Daniel Sikkema, 55, was convicted in a Manhattan federal court for hiring a hitman to kill his estranged husband, prominent art dealer Brent Sikkema, at his Rio de Janeiro home in January 2024. Prosecutors say Daniel used a burner phone to arrange the murder, advanced over $10,000 and bragged he stood to gain more from his spouse’s death than a divorce settlement. Daniel’s lawyer announced plans to appeal, arguing the case rests on circumstantial evidence.
