Edo Police Rescue All 13 Kidnapped Passengers on Benin–Lagos Road
The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of 13 passengers abducted from a commercial bus along the Benin–Lagos Road on May 13. The victims were travelling from Akwa Ibom to Lagos when gunmen attacked, shot a female passenger and took them to an unknown location. Officers responded with coordinated rescue operations and intensive bush combing around Ogua Community. Initial efforts freed five hostages (two adults and three children). A subsequent drone-supported surveillance operation led to a gunfight on May 10 and the rescue of two more passengers. By May 23, police confirmed all remaining six captives were recovered unharmed. In a statement, the police spokesperson praised the operatives’ courage and resilience. The Commissioner of Police has vowed to continue bush combing and patrols until all perpetrators are apprehended.
