Heskey Warns Liverpool Over Van Dijk's Real Madrid Appeal
Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey believes the club must avoid allowing Virgil van Dijk to run down his contract amid reported interest from Real Madrid. Van Dijk signed a two-year extension in April 2025, keeping him at Anfield until the summer of 2027. The Liverpool captain said after the win over Bournemouth on September 20 that talks over a further extension had not begun. Heskey said Real Madrid's interest can turn a player's head, regardless of their contract situation. He added that Liverpool supporters would be disappointed if another key player left without a transfer fee.
