Samuel Ogazi won Nigeria’s first-ever Commonwealth Games gold medal in the men’s 400m, storming to victory in 44.25 seconds at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow. The 20-year-old pulled clear in the closing stages after entering the final as the fastest qualifier. Trinidad and Tobago’s Jereem Richards took silver in 44.82 seconds, while South Africa’s Zakithi Nene claimed bronze in 45.21 seconds. Ogazi’s latest triumph follows a breakthrough season in which the Kaduna-born sprinter set a Nigerian record of 44.02 seconds, won an NCAA title and reached an Olympic final.
