BTS Reportedly Boycotts 2027 Grammys Over Asian Pop Category Concerns

A report claims that BTS will not submit music, including its reported comeback album, for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards. The decision is said to be linked to concerns over the Recording Academy’s new Asian Pop category. BTS has received five Grammy nominations, including recognition for “Dynamite,” “Butter,” “My Universe” with Coldplay, and “Yet To Come.” The group has performed at the ceremony three times but has not won a competitive Grammy. Grammy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. reportedly said the Asian Pop category was created to expand recognition for Asian artists, not to limit them. He added that artists in genre categories can still compete in the General Field awards, including Album, Record and Song of the Year.

A boycott may make a statement, but it is still worth waiting for clearer confirmation beyond a report before drawing firm conclusions.

The Recording Academy should explain how the new category works and whether Asian pop artists can still compete in major general categories.
