Bayelsa Police Rescue Woman Held for 26 Days, Arrest Suspected Kidnapper
Bayelsa Police have rescued 42-year-old Sarah Chinedu, who was allegedly held by kidnappers for 26 days after being abducted from a phone shop in Amassoma, Southern Ijaw LGA. Police said the suspects entered the shop on July 28 pretending to be customers before taking her to a forest camp in Ogobiri. The gang allegedly demanded ₦100 million, later reducing the ransom to ₦20 million. Her family was also said to have paid ₦1.5 million. Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit reportedly spent five days tracking the suspects before raiding the camp at about 1:45 a.m. on August 23. The victim was rescued unharmed, while a 33-year-old suspect was arrested and is said to have confessed to involvement in the abduction.
