Ibrahim Gusau Explains Decision to Resign as NFF President

Ibrahim Gusau has confirmed his resignation as president of the Nigeria Football Federation, saying the decision was driven by his love for Nigeria and commitment to improving football. He said he took the decision after consulting family and friends and advised NFF executive committee members who wish to do the same to resign. He could not immediately confirm how many board members had followed his decision. Gusau’s exit follows criticism of Nigeria’s recent results, including the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2022 and 2026 World Cups. He highlighted progress in coaching, domestic league administration, refereeing and infrastructure, and said he remains willing to support Nigerian football when needed.
