Kidnappers Reportedly Raise Ransom for Anambra Businessman Joseph Ezeokafor to ₦1.5bn

Kidnappers holding Jezco Group chairman Chief Sir Joseph Ezeokafor have reportedly raised their ransom demand from ₦700 million to ₦1.5 billion. Ezeokafor was reportedly abducted at about 2am on Tuesday in Anambra State while heading to a prayer ground for his annual spiritual retreat. Reports say he left his security personnel behind when he departed his residence. A family source said relatives had agreed to negotiate the initial ₦700 million demand, but the abductors later increased it and subsequently stopped communicating. The family is said to be uncertain about his condition as efforts to re-establish contact continue. More than a week after the abduction, the Anambra State Police Command and state government had not issued an official statement.
