Did I Overstep by Taking My Friend’s Kids to Safety?
My friend told his wife to leave their home. She packed her bags and left behind their two children, a three-year-old boy and a three-month-old baby girl. Furious, my friend shouted that he would bury the kids if they weren’t gone by the next day. Both children were crying uncontrollably. I stepped in, carried them outside, and begged their neighbour to help with the eldest. We began the long walk in a remote area. Ten minutes later it started raining, so I covered the newborn with my shirt. We passed the mother, but she didn’t offer to help. When she finally returned, she swooped in, breastfed the baby, and we secured transport back to her family home. Now I’m wondering if I crossed a line by getting involved when their parents refused to. Did I overstep my boundaries?
