Anambra Court Sentences 34-Year-Old to 16 Years for Abduction and Rape, Orders Sex Offender Registration
An Anambra Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court has convicted a 34-year-old man for abducting and raping a woman. The court heard that on October 8, 2022, the defendant and armed accomplices stormed the victim’s home in Ezinifite village, forced her into an unfinished building and assaulted her. Neighbours tried to help but were threatened with a weapon. After the victim escaped, she reported the attack to the police. During trial, four prosecution witnesses detailed the assault and the injuries sustained. The defence testimony was discredited under cross-examination. Justice Peace Otti found the convict guilty on both counts and sentenced him to 16 years’ imprisonment. He also ordered that the man be registered as a sexual offender in the state registry.
