Kano Leads NECO 2026 in Candidates With Five Credits, Ahead of Lagos and Oyo

Kano State recorded the highest number of candidates who earned at least five NECO credits, including English Language and Mathematics, in the 2026 SSCE. A total of 74,413 Kano candidates met the benchmark. Lagos followed with 72,496 candidates, while Oyo recorded 55,543. Kano has now led this ranking for the second consecutive year. The state government attributed the result to education funding, improved facilities, teacher development, scholarships and support for students unable to pay examination fees. The ranking is based on the total number of successful candidates, not each state’s pass percentage or average performance.
