Learn From the Lives of Those Who Inspire You
Ecclesiastes 1:9 teaches that there is nothing new under the sun. When pursuing a goal, it helps to study people who have achieved something similar. Learn from their choices, discipline, successes and mistakes, then apply those lessons with your own knowledge and experience. I tell my children who want to be like me: while others focus on the glory, pay attention to the story. God is no respecter of persons. The principles that worked for others can also guide anyone who follows them faithfully. After becoming a Christian, I studied biblical figures who inspired me. Elijah taught me the value of a devoted prayer life and focus on one’s God-given assignment. Elisha and Paul also offered lessons in spiritual growth, wisdom and lasting relevance. Do not deny yourself the wisdom available in the lives of people around you, in history and in Scripture. Learn from their victories and failures, and let those lessons help you fulfil your purpose in God.
