Ghanaian Student Dies After Collapsing at Airport in China
Mercy Yaaba Bredu, a Ghanaian graduate who travelled to China for a master’s degree, has died after reportedly collapsing shortly after arriving at the airport. She left Ghana on Monday, August 24, 2026, after earning first-class honours and securing scholarships to study in both the United States and China. She reportedly chose China to continue her education and explore import business opportunities. Former classmates said she complained of chest pain during the journey. She was rushed to hospital after collapsing at the airport but died on Wednesday, August 26. Her death has saddened friends, former colleagues and members of the University of Education, Winneba community.
