Yakubu Aiyegbeni: I’d Be Worth €150m in Today’s Football Market

Former Super Eagles striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni believes he would have commanded a transfer fee of about €150 million if he played in today’s football market. Speaking on a sports programme, Yakubu said transfer fees for forwards have risen sharply. He argued that players who score about 10 Premier League goals now attract fees of around €50 million, while he consistently scored roughly 15 league goals per season. Yakubu compared his £11.5 million move from Middlesbrough to Everton with modern valuations. He said big-money transfers bring intense pressure, as players are expected to perform and justify the club’s investment. The former Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Everton and Blackburn Rovers forward scored more than 90 Premier League goals and netted 21 times for the Super Eagles.
