Senate Seeks Emergency Repairs on Onitsha–Ndoni Highway Linking Anambra and Rivers
The Senate has called on the Federal Government, FERMA and the South-East Development Commission to carry out emergency repairs on failed sections of the Onitsha–Iyiowa–Odekpe–Atani–Ogwuikpele–Ndoni Federal Highway. The lawmakers also urged the Ministry of Works to begin full rehabilitation of the road through a special intervention programme or other funding arrangement. The highway is a major link between Anambra and Rivers states, connecting the South-East and South-South. Senator Tony Nwoye said the roughly 70-kilometre journey from Onitsha to Ndoni now takes nearly two hours instead of about one hour because of potholes, erosion and failed road sections. The Senate Committee on Works will inspect the road and report back within four weeks, while relevant committees were asked to make budget provisions for reconstruction.
