Investigation Raises Accreditation and Staffing Concerns at Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku
An investigation has raised allegations of staffing, equipment and governance failures at Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku. Some departments were said to lack enough permanent lecturers, while temporary lecturers and borrowed or rented equipment were allegedly presented during accreditation exercises. The report also alleges that the institution’s recruitment of 120 permanent staff was controversial, with some existing ad hoc lecturers reportedly overlooked. It questions whether the appointments addressed documented staff shortages and calls for recruitment and accreditation records to be independently reviewed. There are further allegations of student extortion and compromised verification during an accreditation exercise. The claims have not been independently established, and efforts to reach the Acting Rector and the National Board for Technical Education for comment were unsuccessful. The report urges the regulator and Delta State education authorities to investigate the allegations and ensure that students have access to qualified lecturers, functional equipment and credible academic standards throughout their studies.
