Russian Man Sentenced to 14 Years for Filming Soldiers’ Graves
A Russian court has sentenced Nikolai Shcherbakov, 48, to 14 years in a maximum-security prison for high treason after he allegedly photographed and filmed the graves of soldiers killed in Ukraine. Authorities said Shcherbakov repeatedly visited a memorial cemetery in Yaroslavl from October 2024 and sent recordings and photographs of military burial sites to people said to represent Ukrainian intelligence. The case is part of a wider crackdown on people accused of documenting Russian military graves. Several other suspects have been detained or prosecuted in recent months over allegations of sharing information about soldiers killed in the war.
