Yobe Security Enlisted to Halt Theft of Child Nutrition Supplies

The Yobe government has called on security agencies to help stop the diversion of life-saving nutrition for severely malnourished children. Dr Babagana Machina, Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Primary Healthcare Development Board, spoke at a high-level meeting in Damaturu. He said theft and illegal sale of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) worsen a public health crisis and pose a security threat. The state has committed over N500 million to procure and distribute these nutrition commodities. Machina urged law enforcement to safeguard supplies and ensure they reach the intended beneficiaries. A UNICEF representative praised the government’s funding and confirmed additional support. The meeting aimed to build consensus on protecting vital nutrition resources from misuse.
