10 Nollywood Box-Office Hits That Show Nigerians Still Love the Cinema Experience
Nigerian cinemas recorded ₦11.5 billion in ticket sales in 2024, up from ₦7.2 billion in 2023. Cinema admissions also rose to about 2.66 million, signalling a strong recovery for theatrical releases. Several Nollywood films helped drive that growth by combining familiar stars, comedy, romance, family drama and stories that reflect everyday Nigerian life. Major crowd-pullers included Everybody Loves Jenifa, A Tribe Called Judah, Battle on Buka Street, Omo Ghetto: The Saga, Alakada: Bad and Boujee and Queen Lateefah. The Wedding Party, The Wedding Party 2, Ajosepo and Behind the Scenes also demonstrated the appeal of Nigerian stories on the big screen. Their success suggests that, despite the rise of streaming platforms, audiences will still pay for a memorable cinema experience.
