Ogun Education Under Dapo Abiodun: Progress Made, But Learning Outcomes Must Improve

Ogun State’s education record under Governor Dapo Abiodun deserves a balanced assessment. Since 2019, the administration has abolished fees in public primary, secondary and technical schools, reduced transfer-form costs, renovated classrooms through the Ogun REHAB Initiative and recruited teachers through OgunTEACH. The government has also supported learners through the Gbemiga Abiodun Education Support Programme, which has disbursed funds to beneficiaries across Ikenne, Remo North and Sagamu. These interventions matter to families facing the daily cost of schooling, and improved facilities can make learning safer and more dignified. However, renovated classrooms and new furniture are only the starting point. Ogun must also show stronger learning outcomes: pupils who can read well, teachers who receive continuous training, relevant curriculum delivery, adequate materials and graduates prepared for work and further study. The real test of education policy is not only the number of projects completed, but whether children leaving Ogun public schools can reason independently, compete confidently and build productive futures.
