Customs Sets Ambitious ₦11.07 Trillion Revenue Target for 2026
The Nigeria Customs Service has proposed a ₦11.074 trillion revenue target for 2026, nearly double its ₦6.584 trillion goal for 2025. In 2025, Customs collected ₦7.277 trillion—₦674 billion above target and 19 percent more than in 2024. By May 31, 2026, it had already generated ₦4.43 trillion, about 40 percent of its new goal. For next year, the Service plans a ₦1.235 trillion budget, allocating ₦421 billion for personnel, ₦307 billion for overhead, and ₦565 billion for capital projects. Revenue gains are credited to collection reforms, stronger anti-smuggling operations, and trade-friendly policies, although some tariffs on CNG and electric vehicles have posed challenges. Parliamentary committees voiced confidence in Customs’ performance, approved the 2026 budget by voice vote, and praised ongoing reforms. Lawmakers also extended the Comptroller-General’s tenure to sustain momentum toward the new target.
