The Day I Hid Under My Girlfriend’s Bed
When I was very young, I started seeing a nurse who was also involved with a man named Nosayaba. One afternoon, after we finished, she rushed me under her bed and warned that he was coming. From my hiding spot, I heard Nosayaba’s powerful movements above. The pounding was so loud and intense that I felt repulsed. Dust floated on the foam, her screams echoed, and I was sweating with discomfort. I couldn’t bear it. I slipped out from under the bed, opened the door, and walked away. I never stayed to find out what happened next in that room. Not long after, I left for school in another town. Years later, I learned Nosayaba was killed during an operation sweep. Looking back, I regret letting shame guide me.
